Founded out of friendships forged in the Central Oregon Mastersingers' choir rows, The Ponderosa Pitches began as an idea from singer Sarah Flagg. She was particularly interested in starting a local treble a cappella group that explored music beyond the traditional choir and church choir offerings that were already deeply rooted in the Central Oregon community. The vision for the Pitches took shape over coffee and conversations in late 2026-early 2026 with fellow singers Riley Sheets and Lauren J., both equally as enthusiastic as Sarah about finding a way to make this passion project a reality.
Bringing together talented singers from Central Oregon Mastersingers and the broader Central Oregon community, the Pitches held their first rehearsal on January 18, 2026, at Nativity Lutheran Church in Bend. Just two months later, they made their public debut in downtown Bend on March 21, 2026.
Today, the Ponderosa Pitches continue to expand their treble a cappella repertoire across a variety of genres while performing throughout Central Oregon and look forward to continuing opportunities to connect with the community!

WHY I LOVE THE PITCHES: She LOVEs singing with such amazing and talented humans. It’s so challenging and fun to create beautiful music.
Christina was born and raised in Bend, OR. Thrown onto the stage to sing as young as age 5, she always loved being in front of people. It wasn’t until she was listening to “I will survive”on a tape recorder that she realized she loved singing solo. Thus began her lifetime of singing and the love of performing. From competitions at deschutes county fair to jazz choir at Mountain View high school. Although she spends her work days as a family nurse practitioner in Functional Medicine, the joy of singing will always be a part of her life. She is so excited and honored to be a part of this group.

WHY I LOVE THE PITCHES: Getting to learn and grow in music with so many talented and skilled people.
Jay’s musical background is diverse. They grew up singing for anyone who would listen and what began as a childhood passion evolved into a lifelong love of music. Their experience includes classical choral and solo singing, as well as Americana, folk, rock, pop, funk, and jazz. Over the years, Jay has performed with numerous small ensembles, bands, and choirs. Most notably, they sang with Consonare Chorale in Portland, Oregon, for eight years. When they’re not singing with Ponderosa Pitches, Jay can be found reading a good book, dancing, or outdoors - hiking and spending time near the water. They also sing in an acapella folk trio, work as a massage therapist, and enjoy spending time with their beloved friends and family.

Lisa’s been singing for as long and as often as she can remember. First solo: the baseline in Kool & the Gang’s “Celebration” in 2nd grade because she was the only kid in class who could hit the low notes. Lisa’s sung in chamber groups, collegiate a cappella, opera, jazz/pop groups, around the campfire, in festivals/venues around the world, and in the car on long commutes (which thankfully don’t happen as much since moving to Bend!). Lisa is a proud member of the Pitches and the Central Oregon Mastersingers.

WHY I LOVE THE PITCHES: Making beautiful music with so many talented artists and incredible people!
Music has been a part of Mariah’s life for what feels like forever. She started piano at age 6, singing at age 10, and viola at age 11. During her freshman year in high school, her choral teacher essentially told her to get into voice lessons immediately, leading to her eventual roles throughout the school's many musical groups as Section Leader, Principal Alto, Student Director, and co-founder of the Women’s Quartet. She followed this musical path to Whitworth University, participating in the Whitworth Choir and the Whitworth Chamber Singers, and placed at the Northwest NATS competition. After graduating, she sang with the Spokane Choral Artists and Spokane Kantorei before moving to Bend in 2017, where she now sings with the Central Oregon Mastersingers and Ponderosa Pitches.

Elsa’s love for making noise began when she started humming tunes from The Sound of Music at age one and a half. She has since gained (and subsequently lost) some solid piano skills, acquired an undergraduate music theory degree, and sang with the Whitman College Chorale, Cor de Dones (in Palma de Mallorca, Spain), and the Central Oregon Mastersingers. She is thrilled to have been one of the inaugural members of the Pitches, and hopes to find a group half as lovely and talented during her next chapter in North Carolina.

New to Central Oregon but not new to voice. Sonja has been singing since she could mutter a sound. She nurtured her vocal skills in high school and decided to go to Eastern Oregon University to further her knowledge and earn a Bachelor of Music. Sonja feels as though music is one of the special things in life that can make humans experience pure joy - she can’t wait to share that joy with you.
